Rwanda Institute for Conservation Agriculture University (RICA) was founded in 2018 with the mission to provide undergraduate degrees in the sustainable agricultural field in the country of Rwanda. The focus of RICA is to educate a new generation of entrepreneurs on sustainable agriculture using an innovate, hands-on, experiential approach.
One of the early goals of the founders was to implement a cloud-based student information system that offered the ability to manage students from the initial inquiry, to admissions, to student success to graduation and could scale as needed. RICA quickly implemented an admissions system that was tailored to meet their unique entrance requirements and to ensure all information related to their initial classes would be in OneWorldSIS Student Information System and not have to be reentered from any manual documentation. As RICA continued to grow and move their initial classes forward, additional features and functions were implemented to manage the student lifecycle from degree program offerings to full course, class, and test score postings. As part of a parallel phase, the Moodle LMS solution was implemented with a full integration to OneWorldSIS for class grades and rostering updates.
RICA has achieved considerable efficiencies using OneWorldSIS, and the platform technology, to automate numerous day-to-day processes while also being able to access and interact with the data using office suites such as Microsoft 365.
